The Midwest Gypsy Swing Fest On-the-Road
Featuring Harmonious Wail, and the Gonzalo Bergaro Trio
May 5, 7:30 pm
Midwest Gypsy Swing Fest (MGSF) is a traveling music festival that brings the passion and joy of European Gypsy music straight to your door, allowing audiences all over the Midwest to enjoy this passionate and romantic music. In its 13th year, MGSF bringing together the amazing music of Virtuoso composer and lead guitarist Gonzalo Bergara and the Gypsy Jazz of returning Pump House artists Harmonious Wail.
Gonzalo Bergara mixes a cascade of arpeggios with the sounds of Paris and his native Argentina, forging his own style of progressive Gypsy Jazz. His music exists in a way that very little music does. He has lavished such care on every phrase, built each arrangement with such lapidary precision and pared away anything extraneous.
Though richly influenced by European gypsy musicians, Madison’s own Harmonious Wail bursts through the boundaries of the genre with its enticing arrangements and sheer joy. Smoldering vocals are laced with jazzy mandolin and guitar for an infectious blend of continental jazz, swing, and gypsy music. Harmonious Wail has won multiple Madison Area Music Association (MAMA) awards.
