Woodcut printing is an ancient relief printing technique; a design is carved into a block of wood, the image on the block is covered in ink then pressed onto paper or fabric until the image is transferred from the woodblock to the paper or fabric. The image may be printed multiple times on multiple surfaces, creating many prints.
